Perth #heartofgold Trail
Discover the rich history of a city and nation built on gold as you embark on the #heartofgold Discovery Trail from Elizabeth Quay to The Perth Mint with your students.
The #heartofgold Discovery Trail combines learning with technology and the outdoors, offering a great option for a class excursion or to explore in class.
The virtual gold trail is the first of its kind in Perth providing a fun, interactive and educational experience for school students to learn about the rich history and importance of gold to the development of Perth city and Western Australia via the free Heart of Gold Australia app.
Students will have the opportunity to explore Perth’s golden secrets and go back in time to the early gold rushes with augmented reality, remarkable audio stories, fun widgets, vivid videos, timeless photos and interactive games.
This self-guided, walking trail includes 12 stops, is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and will take 1 – 2 hours to complete.
Students will receive a commemorative #heartofgold medallion on completion of the trail at The Perth Mint and could strike it lucky and win a real gold nugget!

Lessons plans linked to the Australian Curriculum are available for year 5 and year 9 students, however the trail will appeal to students from the age of 8 years. You can find lesson plans, resources and excursion tips on the Gold Industry Group’s website.
